Asyura adalah peristiwa yang sangat agung. Menandai peristiwa ini, ada beberapa amalan yang sangat disarankan untuk dilakukan oleh para pencinta Ahlulbait Nabi; mereka yang berduka atas hari duka Asyura. Dalam Muharram ada 2 tanggal merah, yaitu 1 Muharram yang ditetapkan sebagai tahun baru Hijriah, dan 10 Muharram yang dikenal dengan Asyura. Yang pertama disebut merah karena tanda liburan dan hiburan. Yang kedua disebut merah karena marah dan darah. 1 Muharram dikenal sebagai hari raya yatim.
